Sunsetting Tracker Light: Why we are retiring the free tool

Over the past few months, we have invested our time & resources into improving many of our Re-TRAC Connect solutions to ensure that your user experience, management tools, and analytical reports are optimized.

It is common with most improvement projects that before we make changes, we need to review the current usage patterns. This meant taking a good, hard, and honest look at each of our solutions, including our free tool Tracker Light.

We first launched Tracker Light in the summer of 2011 as a free internal tracking tool that we envisioned would be a useful resource for smaller organizations with limited data tracking needs, that were looking to rid their workflow of spreadsheets.

While we positioned the tool as a Freemium model, we also anticipated many of the organizations would love it as-is and never need anything more. Not only were we accepting of this fact, we were delighted that we could offer such a service for free.

With the launch of a free program assessment and planning tool for municipalities, the Municipal Measurement Program, we are no longer able to continue to support Tracker Light at the level of quality our user base deserves. Furthermore, the number of users that consistently track data using Tracker Light has been steadily declining over the past number of years, with only 1% of users that joined Tracker Light in 2014 still actively using the tool today.

For these reasons, we made the difficult (but necessary) decision to decommission Tracker Light on May 31, 2019.

What does this mean for users of Tracker Light?

Each user of Tracker Light will have the option to opt into our Tracker plan, and will continue to have free access until October 31st, 2019. The free trial will allow you to do everything you currently can do with Tracker Light, but you will also have access to the following additional features and functionality:

    • Track for multiple locations
    • Add additional reporting users to your program
    • Customize additional drop-down menus using Tracker's 'Flag' feature
    • Aggregated and location-specific analytical reports
    • Brand your program by naming the program and adding your logo
    • Configure a public webpage on RecycleSearch.com and share your reports with the public

After the free trial is complete, you will have the option to purchase an annual subscription to the Tracker Plan ($1,750 USD/year) or export your data and the trial will end. To sign up for the free trial, fill out the form below.

Thank you for choosing to use Tracker Light, and we hope that it was a useful tool when you needed it. We look forward to investing in our other solutions, including the Municipal Measurement Program, and helping you get the data you need to make the right decisions to improve your recycling programs and our world.

What if I don’t want the free trial?

If you’re not interested in trying out Tracker (we urge you to reconsider!), then you simply have to export your data using the instructions below before May 31st, 2019.

On June 1, 2019, Tracker Light will be no longer accessible, including the data you have entered into the system. If you require assistance with exporting your data – we’re here to help.

Simply email support@re-trac.com and we’ll be in touch to walk you through it.
